Growing research capability
Learning Hub is the portal's online learning platform, designed to build skills and confidence in health research among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, researchers, and community members. All content is developed with and for First Nations peoples, centring cultural knowledge alongside rigorous research methods.
Online courses
Our self-paced online courses cover essential topics for community-controlled health research:
- Introduction to community-controlled research — principles, ethics, and practice of research led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Indigenous Data Sovereignty in practice — implementing IDS principles in research design, data collection, storage, and sharing.
- Qualitative research methods — yarning, storytelling, and community-based approaches to gathering and analysing qualitative data.
- Grant writing for ACCHOs — practical skills for developing competitive research grant applications.
- Knowledge translation — moving research findings into policy, practice, and community programs.
Courses are free for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners. Completion certificates are available for professional development records.
Webinars
We host regular webinars featuring First Nations researchers, community leaders, and policy experts. Recent topics have included climate and health, midwifery workforce development, ethical genomics, and decolonising research methodologies. Webinar recordings are available on the platform after each session.
Resources
The learning platform includes downloadable guides, templates, and toolkits — including ethics application templates for community-controlled research, data governance frameworks, and community consent models. Many resources complement publications available in the Resource Library.
Who can access Learning Hub?
The platform is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers, researchers, students, and community members. Non-Indigenous allies working in partnership with ACCHOs may access selected resources with community approval. Contact us for access enquiries or to discuss tailored training for your organisation.
